Side Deck cards making the difference!

Before you pre-judge this article, I am talking about cards which have been out for a few sets, which have come back to scare (or annoy xD) some of the meta decks that are out there this format. I will be limiting this to 5 cards which I believe are making a significant impact to the format, so that I can go a little more in depth into each and every card and some uses.

1. Trap Stun

From the Raging Battle set, trap stun is one of those cards specifically designed for a format like this! With heavy setting and only single compulsory, bottomless, torrential and warning floating around a well timed trap stun can help to swing the game in your favour and make pushes, especially if you are running a deck which has OTK potential. With monster effects everywhere and the majority of decks running effect negation, specifically cards like fiendish chain, trap stun can help "turn off" these cards so that you can continue with their play and essentially makes them useless. I would run Trap Stun over Seven Tools of the Bandit as personal preference as staring down the face of 3-4 sets, trap stun can turn these all off for the entire turn whereas Seven Tools of the Bandit can only stop 1, and it costs 1000LP.

2. Overworked

From The Duelist Genesis, overworked is one of those cards to which all Fire Fist players hate towards. A well timed overworked can stop your opponents plays and can save you if activated in the BP. It can also severely punish overextension, particularly with Fire Fists, which run little backrow without any monsters on the field. It is chainable, but the only downside of running it is if you are running the same kind of deck or one which has cards boosting the attack of your own monsters.

3. Malevolent Catastrophe

From structure deck Marik it is every artefact player's dream card. The ability to destroy any cards on the field make this card the new "Heavy Storm" of the format although this time its unlimited! This can seriously help boost decks which run little or now backrow and particularly the new archtype Artifacts! The downside to this card is the fact that you can only activate it during BP and so it is easily targetable by cards like MST and Dust Tornado.

4. System Down

From Cybernetic Revolution system down is any geargia/karakuri players nightmare card. It is a great card to be used in siding 1-2 as it completely destroys any advantage an opponent running machine type decks may pick up and severely punishes overextension. "An unlimited dark hole which banishes" as my fellow friend and yugituber ssjason19 describes. This card deserves at least 1 spot on every persons side-board. The only downside is the 1000LP you have to pay, but a well timed card will easily swing things to your advantage.

5. Debunk

From Extreme Victory this cards use last dragon ruler format saw its price sky rocket! This format it is still putting in a heck of a lot of work, particularly as there are a lot of had traps floating around, bujins and mermails. This card answers to all of those problems and more and can seriously hinder your opponent from making their big plays. The downside is also what is great about this card...it is a counter trap and so again with a heavy backrow format and with MSTs floating around, just hope that it doesn't get hit!

Actually, ive seen My Body as a Shield more and more (ive always used that as it was my choice above Starlight road) my guesses it is due the ban of heavy storm, wich makes starlight road less effective as it can only be activated if 2 or more cards are gonna get destroyed, in wich case MBAAS protects the monsters from MOST harms, not all.

So imo it earns a respectfull mentioning (even if the cost is 1500LP) =x

I think that My body as shield is more of a main deck option rather than something which you would choose to side and I do agree that people are moving away from the likes of lances and towards my body as shield ran at 1-2 in the main deck. I did only do 5 cards, obviously these are what I would consider as good side deck material and there are doubtlessly countless more cards deserving a mention I may come to when I write further articles.
